- Alcohol is the most commonly cited abused substance in Florida. In 2009, 28,352 people were admitted for alcohol addiction or alcohol dependence with a secondary substance treatment. Between 2003 and 2012, a total of 8,000 drunk driving fatalities were reported in the state.
- Prescription drugs are also a commonly abused substance. In the year 2005-2006, 777,000 Floridians reported using prescription drugs for non-medical use.
