  3. Primary treatment admissions for marijuana abuse in New York represent a quarter of all drug abuse treatment admissions. The use of this drug has become so common in New York that half of all male arrestees test positive for marijuana in their system.
  4. Prescription drug-related deaths quadrupled between the years 2005 and 2014. However, New York has one of the lowest rates of prescription drugs, with only 34 per 100 people given a prescription, compared to the national average of 51.4 per 100 people.
