About This Washington Facility

Kitsap Adolescent Recovery Services (KARS) is an outpatient substance abuse treatment center based in Port Orchard, Washington. KARS provides a comprehensive range of services to adolescents aged 12-18 who are struggling with substance abuse. KARS helps young adults learn the skills they need to make lasting changes in their lives and to reduce their risk of relapse. Services include individual, group and family therapy, as well as educational, legal, employment and other support services.

KARS provides evidence-based treatment programs that are tailored to meet the individual and family needs of each adolescent. In addition to individual and group therapy, KARS provides holistic and experiential therapies such as wilderness and equine therapy, mindfulness, art and music therapy and yoga.     Outpatient treatment programs provide drug and alcohol addiction treatment through individual sessions with a counselor, group therapy, 12-step meetings, and other activities to help individuals gain sober living skills. Most programs are designed for those individuals who have completed a medically supervised detoxification program and provide opportunities for clients to begin the process of early recovery.

    Outpatient programs also offer a level of medical support as needed and psychological backing through therapy. Clients are encouraged to live at home, though there may be some flexibility regarding this requirement based on the circumstances and needs of each patient.

    Washington's substance use, abuse, and addiction rates have followed the trends of the rest of the over the past years. Methamphetamine abuse is the biggest threat to Washington. Heroin-related overdoses increased by almost 450% from 2006 to 2016. 20% of all annual deaths in Washington are somehow drug and/or alcohol-related. Drugs are widely abused in Washington because they are easily trafficked in and out of the state.

    Heroin abuse is becoming a major problem in Port Orchard, Washington. In 2016, there were 246 drug-related deaths in the city. About 1,000 people in the area are addicted to drugs. Several different drugs are abused in our community, including heroin, meth, and cocaine. Drug addiction can be fatal, and it is important to seek treatment before it becomes too late.
