Idaho is the number one producer of potatoes in the USA and almost every known gemstone has been found in Gem State. NASA astronauts used lava fields at the Moon National Monument Craters for moonwalk preparation in 1969. In winter, skiers and snowboarders are avoiding the lines and trying their best to keep the super-dry powder a secret.

The Impact of Addiction in Idaho

Drug & Alcohol Rehab Centers, Counseling in Idaho

Idaho is the number one producer of potatoes in the USA. Almost every known gemstone has been found in Gem State. Unspoilt, with its vast expanses of desert, this sparsely populated state lacks the crowds surrounding Washington and Montana. NASA astronauts used lava fields at the Moon National Monument Craters for moonwalk preparation in 1969. In winter, skiers and snowboarders are avoiding the lines and trying their best to keep the super-dry powder a secret.

Many Idahoers struggle with either alcohol and/or drug addiction. In 2010, Idaho ranked amongst the top ten states of substance abuse in several categories. Alcohol dependence and abuse pose a major problem throughout the state–especially among minors between the ages of 12 and 17 years old. For this age group, in particular, Idaho has consistently ranked amongst the top ten states in the nation for alcohol abuse and dependence over the past decade.

Clearly there are a lot of things Idaho to enjoy, but that does not mean Idaho is without drug issues.

Opioids, like everywhere else in the nation, are also responsible for many substance abuse problems in the Gem State. Idaho medical providers write a higher than average amount of prescriptions for opioids at 61.9% compared to the rest of the nation which falls at 51.4%. From these prescriptions, pain relievers form the largest threat to teenagers in Idaho.

To combat these drug problems, the state has adopted several laws and opened more rehabilitation centers. One of the most important laws implemented mandates that all healthcare professionals in Idaho have access to naloxone, which provides a temporary block of the effects of opioids, thereby giving medics more time to help overdosed individuals.

Worst Drugs in Idaho

  1. While alcohol-related arrests have declined by more than 50% in recent years, alcohol abuse is still a large problem in Idaho–especially amongst adolescents. It is reported that more than 15% of all Idaho teenagers start drinking before turning 13 years of age.
  2. Almost 70% of all opioid-related overdoses in Idaho are related to the non-medical use of prescription opioids. To combat this use, Idaho installed Drug Take-back locations all over the state where users can safely discard any unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs.
  3. In 2016, 60% of all drug-related arrests were related to marijuana. Marijuana is also the most cited drug in rehabilitation admissions in Idaho and the highest population of those admitted are residents between 12 and 17 years old.
  4. In the five years between 2011 and 2016, heroin-related arrests increased by more than 900%. This is mostly due to the increase in heroin trafficking. In 2016 alone, heroin trafficking in Idaho increased by over 800%.
  5. Between 2008 and 2016, methamphetamine-related arrests in Idaho increased by 200%. The number of methamphetamine abuse treatment admissions in the state also went up during the same time. Almost 40% of all admissions in Idaho list this drug as their primary drug of abuse.
